Squalicum closes out regular season with win over Meridian

Heaton, Binning lead Storm to 47-43 victory over Trojans

Makayla Heaton and Mari Binning each scored in double figures and Squalicum closed out its regular season with a home win, 47-43, over Meridian on Friday, Feb. 2.

Heaton, a senior, notched a game-high 15 points while Binning finished with 12. Squalicum (14-7, 9-6 Northwest Conference), which lost its last game to Lynden Christian, bounced back to win their 13th game in the last 15.

Meridian (5-15, 2-13 NWC) lost its second straight match. The Trojans have already been seeded fourth out of five in the 1A District 1 tournament that begins on Monday, Feb. 5.

The Trojans were led by 11 points from freshman Eden Bernardy, while senior Malia McCauley finished with 10.

Squalicum’s next game is to be determined, as the 2A District 1 tournament begins on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Seeding will not be finalized until all regular season games conclude on Saturday, Feb. 3.
