Western earns top seed after winning regular season title for second-straight year

Western Washington University women’s basketball is the top seed in the 2023 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championships tournament.

The Vikings, for the first time in program history, clinched their second-straight regular season GNAC title on Feb. 23 with a win over Simon Fraser.

The GNAC championships will be March 2–4 in Bellingham at Carver Gym on Western’s campus. Each game will be loser-out, winner advances, and the top two seeds receive a first-round bye.

Six of the 10 teams in the conference make the cut, and this year’s tournament features the following six schools and their respective seedings:

  • No. 1 Western Washington (22-3, 16-2 GNAC)
  • No. 2 Montana State Billings (23-6, 14-4 GNAC)
  • No. 3 Central Washington (20-7, 12-6 GNAC)
  • No. 4 Alaska Anchorage (18-9, 10-8 GNAC)
  • No. 5 Seattle Pacific (14-12, 9-9 GNAC)
  • No. 6 Simon Fraser (10-12, 8-10 GNAC)

Thursday, March 2: Quarterfinals

Game 1: No. 3 Central Washington vs. No. 6 Simon Fraser, 5:15 p.m.

Game 2: No. 4 Alaska Anchorage vs. No. 5 Seattle Pacific, 7:30 p.m.

Friday, March 3: Semifinals

Game 3: No. 3 Central Washington/No. 6 Simon Fraser vs. No. 2 Montana State Billings, 5:15 p.m.

Game 4: No. 4 Alaska Anchorage/No. 5 Seattle Pacific winner vs. No. 1 Western Washington, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 4: Championship game


Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4, 7:30 p.m.
