Western Washington University women’s basketball team is seeded No. 2 in the NCAA Division II West Region.

The NCAA announced the placement Sunday night, March 5, pitting the Vikings against No. 7 Azusa Pacific University (25-4) in the first round of the West Regional Tournament March 10–13 in Carson, California, at host California State University Dominguez Hills.

The Vikings will face Azusa Pacific in the West Regional Tournament quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 10. The game will be available to watch via webcast through the California College Athletic Association Network.

A quarterfinals win would send Western to a Saturday, March 11, semifinals game against either No. 3 Cal State San Marcos (23-5) or No. 6-seeded in-state rival Central Washington (21-8).

Western lost to Azusa Pacific 59-58 in a back-and-forth contest during the West Region Crossover Classic in December. In the time since, the Cougars became leaders in the PacWest conference in points per game (73.4), shooting percentage (42.9%), blocks per game (3.45), assists per game (17.24), and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.24).

Montana State University Billings (24-7), which Western beat in the Great Northwest Athletic Tournament championship game March 4, was assigned the No. 4 seed. Central Washington University also received a bid and sits with the No. 6 seed.

A previous version of this story stated the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament was scheduled for March 10–12. The tournament will run from March 10–13. The story was updated to reflect this change at 10:04 a.m. on March 7. Cascadia Daily News regrets this error.
