CDN Spring Poetry Contest

Submissions open through noon April 17

By Amy Kepferle Staff Reporter

If you’ve ever fantasized about being a published poet, Cascadia Daily News can help make your dreams come true. In a nod to National Poetry Month, our inaugural Spring Poetry Contest urges residents of Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan and Island counties to submit their poems to us by noon Monday, April 17. Ten poems (five youth and five adult) chosen by guest judge Maria McLeod will be featured in print on Wednesday, April 26, and as many as 15 additional selected submissions will be featured online.

Without further ado, the rules:

1. Keep submissions to 100 words or under.

2. Poems must be original, and cannot have been printed in any other publication or appeared online.

3. Each participant is limited to one poem.

4. Please include your name, age, address and contact information. The two categories are youth 18 and under, and adult.

5. Poems must have a title.

6. Poems are due by noon Monday, April 17 for adults and noon Wednesday, April 19 for youth 18 and younger.

7. The CDN Spring Poetry Contest doesn’t have a theme, so feel free to use your imagination to express yourself on any chosen topic.

8. Email submissions and questions to Amy Kepferle at amykepferle@cascadiadaily.com.

This story was updated to reflect a time change for youth submissions at 11:36 a.m. Thursday, April 13.
