Brent Young Harrison, aged 76, passed away peacefully at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, WA, on March 25, 2024. Born in Seattle, WA, on June 7, 1947, to Walter B. and Marjorie (Young) Harrison, Brent’s journey through life was marked by a deep connection to the land and an enduring and profound commitment to his family and community.

After graduating from high school, Brent attended the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business. After an (almost) around-the-world sailing adventure, he met and married Diana, the love of his life. They moved to Bellingham in 1983; becoming parents (first of Nathaniel, then Kira) and building their organic farm that would become The Growing Garden. Brent’s pioneering dedication to organic farming, specializing in produce and herbs, was exemplary and inspired many whom he mentored and collaborated with over the years to expand the local organic farm network. His efforts extended to years of volunteer service on the Board of the Community Food Coop.

Brent was not just known for his green thumb. His quirky sense of humor, love for the mountains and trees, and dedication to his spiritual path brought laughter, joy and peace to those around him. He had a special twinkle in his eye- that was loved and is missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.

Brent’s life was deeply blessed by his union with his loving wife, Diana (Schermerhorn) Harrison, whom he married on March 29, 1981. Together, they shared a life full of love, beauty, hard work and adventure.

Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marjorie Harrison, Brent’s legacy will be carried on by his beloved wife, Diana, his children, Nathaniel Harrison, with wife Taldi Harrison and Kira (Harrison) Bartel, with husband Fabian Bartel and their families, as well as his brother Walter B. Harrison Jr; and a wide circle of friends and family who were touched by his warm nature, generous spirit, and dedication to making the world a better place.
