Sehome girls swim earns late-season dual win over Squalicum

Both teams combine for 3 state qualifying times, Mariners prevail 100-81

Sehome girls swim picked up a win in its last dual of the season, defeating Squalicum 100-81 on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center.

The Mariners had a first-place finisher in six of the meet’s 12 events, earning nine district qualifying times and one state qualifying time. Squalicum added six district qualifying times and two state qualifiers.

Sehome’s state qualifier came from Jordis Darroch in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing first with a time of 1:04.67. Darroch was also a member of the Mariners’ 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams that captured first-place finishes.

Other first-place finishers from Sehome included Elsa Ethelbah (200-yard freestyle), Madi Ferrari (1-meter dive) and Kateryna Isakova (100-yard breaststroke).

Squalicum’s Ariel Fuhrman earned two state qualifying times, with one in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.69) and the other in the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.69).

The Storm had other first-place finishes from Mackenzie Millican (50- and 100-yard freestyles), Kate Truemper (100-yard backstroke) and their 200-yard freestyle relay team that included Mars Molina, Truemper, Fuhrman and Millican.

Sehome will now prepare for the 2A District 1 girls swim and dive championships that begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes. Squalicum has one more dual against Bellingham at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center.
