Bellingham shooting leaves one hospitalized, one detained

Multiple reports of gunfire were reported Thursday near the 4100 block of Meridian Street

At least one person was hospitalized and another detained by law enforcement officers after a shooting in Bellingham on Thursday, Dec. 28.

Multiple reports of gunfire near the 4100 block of Meridian Street were called into the Bellingham Police Department at about 3:30 p.m.

“By the time officers arrived, both vehicles reportedly involved left the scene,” confirmed Bellingham Police Public Information Officer Megan Peters.

Officers learned that one victim in the shooting was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and made contact with the victim. No additional information about the person’s condition was available as of Thursday evening.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, who had deputies in the area at the time of the shooting, also responded to the incident.

“They were able to contact one of the vehicles involved,” Peters said. “One person was detained.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
