ANACORTES – As Anacortes High School football fans lined the sidewalks of Commercial Avenue in the city’s downtown hub, awaiting a convoy of state champion players and coaches, a familiar chant began: “Sea … Hawks! Sea … Hawks!”

It’s a chorus that often echoes through Lumen Field in Seattle, borrowed from the Seattle Seahawks, which Anacortes shares a mascot with.

Seahawks fans of the high school variety had more reason than ever to belt it at the city’s first-ever state championship football parade on Sunday, Dec. 10.

The No. 2-seeded Seahawks’ 60 points set a 2A state championship game record, defeating top-seeded Tumwater, 60-30, Dec. 2 at Husky Stadium.

Led by trucks full of youth football players and cheerleaders, Anacortes’ star players traveled Commercial Avenue as they received cheers from family and friends while tossing out candy to kids on the streets and hyping up the crowd.

Attendees donned full Anacortes clothing while toting signs that read “Title Town” and photos of players hoisting the Seahawks’ first-ever gold ball.

The convoy, close behind an Anacortes police escort, made its way through town before looping back up to the high school, where players and parade-goers gathered at midfield on Rice Field in Seahawks Stadium.

Youth players, underclassmen, coaches, cheerleaders and the program’s varsity players posed for group photos, celebrating the accomplishment.
