Boys wrestling: Bellingham, Lynden, Squalicum at Sehome
6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, Sehome High School

These four teams combined to send nine wrestlers to the state tournament a season ago.

Even though Whatcom County’s boys wrestling success has been dominated by Class 1A as of late, this all-2A meet should be a good look at which athletes, at the very least, will be competing for sub-regional championships this season.

This will be just the third meet of the season for each team, so it will be interesting to see which wrestlers are beginning to separate themselves from the competition.

WWU: Men’s basketball vs. George Fox
3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, Carver Gym

Who doesn’t love some Sunday college basketball? Get it while you can — this is Western’s final game before winter break kicks in, and the Vikings will be off until Thursday, Jan. 4.

Western (7-3, 1-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) is off to a good start to the season, and the Vikings currently possess a three-game win streak.

Vikings guard Kai Johnson was selected as the GNAC Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 6–12, and the junior is currently leading the conference in scoring with 21.1 points per game.

Johnson has scored at least 20 points in seven of Western’s 10 games so far this year, making him the player to watch in this one.

Recreation: Lighted Bike Parade
4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, Depot Market Square and Hillcrest Church

As we’ve learned in recent weeks, holiday-themed fun runs are a dime a dozen. A group of riders who have decked out their bicycles, helmets and clothing with Christmas lights is not.

This is one of Bellingham’s more unique holiday events, and it’s completely free for anyone who wants to join. Per the website, there is only one requirement: “Costumes encouraged, holiday cheer required!”

The parade begins at Depot Market Square in downtown Bellingham and also at Hillcrest Church in Fairhaven, with Boulevard Park the final destination.

The Lighted Bike Parade attendees begins with a pass by a Christmas tree that is fenced off.
