Man arrested for shots fired at Bellingham apartment

No injuries; multiple agencies responded

A Bellingham man was arrested after allegedly firing shots in an apartment complex on the 3400 block of West McLeod Road early morning on March 20.

Jeremy Spotted Bear, 27, was booked into Whatcom County Jail for reckless endangerment, and two weapons offenses, police said.

Around 1:45 a.m. Monday, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of multiple shots fired at the complex. As deputies approached the scene, more shots were fired, and it was unclear if they were aimed at law enforcement or residents, police said.

Bellingham Police Department and the Bearcat armored vehicle, Washington State Patrol, Homeland Security and a SWAT team also responded to the scene. Whatcom County Public Works temporarily closed the road. No injuries were reported, according to a March 21 sheriff’s office release.

Law enforcement was able to arrest Spotted Bear through the help of negotiators and tactical personnel, Undersheriff Doug Chadwick said in the release. Deputies found two handguns in Spotted Bear’s apartment and 15 shell casings on his patio and the ground below.
