Gallery: Lighted Bike Parade

Cyclists in costume, safety vests and rain gear rode their ornate bikes adorned by strings of lights and holiday-themed decor Saturday, Dec. 9 from downtown Bellingham to Fairhaven to promote cycling in the city.

Children as young as 3 years old came out to ride in the parade of over 70 cyclists, who pedaled in the cold drizzle along the interurban trail and back, roughly 3 miles. The riders who braved the wet evening were rewarded with hot cocoa provided by WECU and Christmas-themed jazz performed by the Bellingham Youth Jazz Band at Depot Market Square.

The Lighted Bike Parade is one of a handful of events hosted by Whatcom Transportation Authority, Downtown Bellingham Partnership, City of Bellingham, Fairhaven Association, Whatcom Smart Trips and Western Washington University to promote bicycle awareness and community.
