Talan Bungard is the starting fullback and defensive end for the Ferndale Golden Eagles football team. He returns for his senior season after leading Ferndale to a 3A state appearance and earning All-Wesco first-team linebacker honors.

“Everyone thought we would do bad last year but we made it to state, so I expect the same thing this year,” Bungard said.

Bungard began playing football in the fourth grade after watching Ferndale High School football games.

“The atmosphere is insane,” Bungard said. “The whole community is here to watch the game and the stands are always full no matter who we are playing.”

Bungard believes the crowd has helped Ferndale build its tradition as a consistent 3A state powerhouse. Ferndale football has also helped Bungard become a better leader, role model in school and teammate with his peers, he said.

The Golden Eagles captain will look forward to making a few more highlight plays before graduating and focusing on either playing in college or attending a trade school. He will also be playing baseball in the spring.
