Blaine School Board’s two vacant positions are now filled after the school board appointed Ryan Swinburnson the District 4 director and Steve Galbraith the District 5 director.

Both members took their oath of office at a Monday, March 25 school board meeting.

In February, two Blaine school board directors resigned in close succession. Former District 4 Director Ryan Ford resigned on Feb. 21 for family reasons. Former District 5 Director Don Leu, who was serving as board president, resigned on Feb. 22 due to health reasons.

Swinburson, who has lived in Blaine since 1979 and attended K-12 in Blaine schools, said in an interview with the school board on March 15 that his experience advising governing boards of public and private entities as a lawyer would be an asset to the board, according to meeting minutes.

Galbraith, who also grew up in Blaine and attended Blaine schools, touted his experience serving on the Planning Commission and the City Council in his interview with the board, and said he wanted to engage “the community and parents in dialogue,” according to meeting minutes.

Swinburnson and Galbraith will serve on the school board until the next general local election in 2025.
