Blaine shuts out, run-rules Oak Harbor in five innings

Teyana Zaddack leads Borderites offensively in 10-0 blowout

By Connor J. Benintendi Sports Editor

Senior Teyana Zaddack led five Blaine players that notched at least two hits in a 10-0, five-inning win over Oak Harbor on Wednesday, March 20 at Pipeline Fields.

It was the second game of the season for the Borderites, who now move to 2-0, and Zaddack was on fire with her line of 3-for-3 batting, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Senior pitcher Emersyn Bakker was exceptional all around, pitching five innings and allowing just one hit, no runs and two walks while striking out nine batters. Bakker also went 2 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs. Juniors Brie Smith, Shaylie Daniels and senior Bella Vezzetti each recorded two hits as well.

Blaine led 2-0 after two innings, but the Borderites exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third to build up a sizeable lead. Three scores over the next two innings cut the game short in favor of the Borderites.

Blaine’s next game will be another home contest against Sedro-Woolley (3-1) at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 22
