Alaska Airlines is adding a third daily flight from Bellingham International Airport (BLI) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) starting Thursday, March 14.

Originating in Seattle, the new Embraer 175 flight departs at 5:30 p.m., arriving in Bellingham at 6:19 p.m. The flight does a quick turn in Bellingham, with a 6:59 p.m. departure, arriving in Seattle at 7:51 p.m. It adds a new option likely to be attractive to travelers connecting via Sea-Tac to red-eye flights to eastern destinations.

“There is strong demand for flights from BLI and we are thrilled Alaska Airlines is adding a third daily flight to Seattle so passengers have more opportunities to choose departure times which best suit their schedules,” said Kip Turner, the director of aviation for the Port of Bellingham.

A one-way ticket on the first run of the new flight was priced at $334 before taxes and fees, according to Alaska Airlines online booking services. The cheapest round-trip ticket on the Bellingham-Seattle route was $167 in April, as of March 13, according to Google Flights.

The average domestic airline fares from Bellingham were $265.55, based on 2023 third quarter numbers from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

“The additional flights back from Bellingham to Seattle will be a huge benefit to our business and leisure travelers,” said Mike Hogan, the public affairs administrator for the Port of Bellingham Public.

Bellingham International Airport is a public-use airport owned and operated by the Port of Bellingham.

Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Airlines serve eight non-stop destinations from Bellingham, including flights to Seattle, Las Vegas, Oakland/San Francisco, Phoenix-Mesa, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Diego and Denver.

“We work with all our carriers to show the demand and popularity of the routes,” Hogan said. “That said, the airlines determine their routes and where they fly on a lot of different factors.”
