Southbound Interstate 5 at Sunset Drive in Bellingham has reopened after the Washington State Patrol investigated a collision involving a pedestrian.

The lanes were closed for about an hour.

Trooper Kelsey Harding posted about the incident on X, formerly Twitter, at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19.

Sgt. Timothy Dick at WSP said in an interview a pedestrian was involved.

“I don’t know at this point how they’re involved,” Dick said.

Southbound I-5 traffic had been being diverted onto Sunset, the Department of Transportation said on X. One lane of northbound I-5 was also blocked at that location, Exit 255.
