Kristy Van Egdom, Lynden Christian’s head volleyball coach, has resigned following the conclusion of the 2023 fall season.

Van Egdom, who wraps up her LC coaching career with a 51-25 overall record, said she is taking time off from coaching to spend more time with her family, including her two young sons.

“I’ve had three great years with LC and the wonderful connections I was able to make with the girls that I will forever remember,” Van Egdom added. “I know these girls have big goals and they no doubt are going to find great success and I can’t wait to watch and cheer them on.”

The Lyncs struggled in 2023, finishing 10-11 overall and missing the 1A state tournament for the first time in 18 seasons. LC had just one senior (Tabby DeJong) on the team alongside a combined 10 freshmen and sophomores.

Van Egdom led LC to a runner-up state finish in 2021 and fourth-place overall placement in 2022.

Before helming the Lyncs, Van Egdom was the head coach at Sehome, leading the Mariners to seven 2A state tournament appearances, two fourth-place finishes and one sixth-place trophy.

“I look forward to returning to coaching again after I’ve been able to pour the time and love into my boys as I have done for the past 15 years as a coach in this league,” Van Egdom said.

Van Egdom’s LC predecessor, Kim Grycel, led the program for 25 years. During that time the team reached 23 straight state tournament appearances, claiming 20 trophies and three state championships — the most recent coming in 2018.

LC has not yet found a new varsity coach to replace Van Egdom.
