Bellingham and Sehome boys basketball were eliminated from the 2A District 1 tournament following consolation quarterfinal losses on Monday, Feb. 12 at Mount Vernon High School.

No. 6 Sehome (11-12) was knocked out after a 53-43 defeat at the hands of No. 4 Lakewood (14-9). Sophomore guard Nolan Wright finished with 11 points for the Mariners while freshman guard Quincy Tanovan had 10. Senior guard Ben Rucker tallied a game-high 20 points for Lakewood.

Bellingham (12-11), the No. 5 seed, lost 65-39 to No. 3 Anacortes (18-5) despite senior guard Wyatt Stephen’s 21 points for the Bayhawks. Brothers Joe Harward (14 points) and Jesse Harward (11) also finished in double figures for Bellingham. Anacortes’ Davis Fogle had a game-high 37 points.

Sehome will not advance to the state tournament for the first time since the 2019–20 season after losing nine seniors at the end of last season. The Mariners will lose four seniors heading into next year.

Bellingham, on the other hand, had 10 or more wins in a season for the first time since 2018–19. The Bayhawks will lose five seniors to graduation.

Anacortes and Lakewood will now play a consolation semifinal at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 to determine which will play for the final 2A state berth out of District 1 on Saturday, Feb. 17. That game will be against the loser of the district championship game — No. 1 Lynden (19-4) or No. 2 Cedarcrest (18-4).
