The man was first spotted near Fred Meyer on Lakeway Drive, then led police on a short car chase up Lincoln Street before abandoning his vehicle on Bill McDonald Parkway, according to a Western Alert email.

Bellingham’s K-9 Unit was tracking the suspect in the Sehome Arboretum as of 9:30 p.m. Friday. Western Washington University Police were also assisting with the search.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, wearing a light gray hoodie, jeans and black and white Nike sneakers.

Police are asking the public to stay out of the arboretum, and to call 911 immediately if they see anyone matching the description.
