Bicyclist hit and killed by train in Ferndale

Victim collided with a railroad crossing bar before being hit

A bicyclist traveling through a railroad crossing was struck and killed by a train around 2 p.m. Saturday. Aug. 17 in Ferndale.

The cyclist was heading south on Hovander Road when they collided with a railroad crossing bar, which threw them in the path of a moving train, according to a news release by the Ferndale Police Department.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
