New York Times-bestselling authors Liane Moriarty and Jodi Picoult will speak in Bellingham next month as part of Village Books’ author event series. Talks occur Sept. 10 and 13 respectively, and tickets are available online.

“An Evening with Liane Moriarty” takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Bellingham High School. The Australian author has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, and her newest work, “Here One Moment,” publishes Aug. 29. The modern-day Jane Austen story explores “free will and destiny, grief and love, and the endless struggle to maintain certainty and control in an uncertain world.”

Picoult will present her new novel, “By Any Other Name” (publishing Aug. 20), at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at Western’s Performing Arts Center. Picoult has written 30 books and sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. “By Any Other Name” is “a sweeping tale of ambition, courage,” centering two women who are “determined to create something beautiful despite the prejudices they face.”

Moriarty writes character-driven commercial fiction, and two of her most famous titles were developed into major television series. HBO’s “Big Little Lies” (2017–present) features actors Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep. Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” (2021–present) also stars Nicole Kidman and was the most-watched Hulu premiere of all time upon release.

Picoult is known for exploring moral dilemmas and family sagas through an accessible writing style. Her most famous work, “My Sister’s Keeper,” was developed into a popular 2009 film with Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin and Alec Baldwin. Four other books — “The Pact,” “Plain Truth,” “The Tenth Circle” and “Salem Falls” — were adapted into TV movies.
