By Connor J. Benintendi Sports Editor

Lynden launched two home runs and the Lions blew past Meridian, 12-1, in a five-inning battle of two quality Northwest Conference baseball teams on Friday, April 19 at Meridian High School.

Senior Cooper Moore and sophomore Matthew Carroll each launched homers for Lynden (13-4, 9-3 NWC), while senior Kael Stapleton was the Lions’ most consistent bat, finishing 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Freshman Gordy Bedlington, senior Lane Simonsen, Carroll and Moore each tallied at least two RBIs for Lynden.

Meridian (11-6, 6-6 NWC) got its lone score on a solo home run from senior Silas Berschauer in the second inning. Berschauer finished 2 for 2 at the plate as one of just three Meridian players to log a hit.

Stapleton picked up the win for Lynden on the mound, pitching all five innings while allowing four hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out seven batters.

Next up for Lynden is a 4 p.m. home game against Squalicum (0-14, 0-11 NWC) on Tuesday, April 23. Meridian will travel to Ferndale (5-9, 4-7 NWC) at 4 p.m. on April 23.
