Bellingham girls swim and boys tennis have both ripped off five straight victories — with girls swim tied with Oak Harbor atop the league standings, and boys tennis one game behind undefeated Anacortes.

The middle ground continues to shrink in the Northwest Conference volleyball landscape, with two undefeated teams (Lynden and Burlington-Edison), two one-loss squads (Meridian and Sehome) and two winless teams (Mount Baker and Sedro-Woolley).

The NWC volleyball standings have continued to become more lopsided. Five teams are undefeated or have just one loss, while eight have at least five.

Lynden (9-1, 8-0 NWC) remains tied with Burlington-Edison (10-0, 8-0 NWC) for the league lead, as both are unbeaten in conference games. The Lions have won six in a row since Sept. 18, and they have two matches before facing Meridian (8-1, 6-1 NWC), another contender for the league title, on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Sehome (6-1, 6-1 NWC) is in the mix after winning six straight matches, most recently prevailing over Lakewood in a five-set contest. The Mariners have a tough match on the horizon against Meridian on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Nooksack Valley (5-3, 5-3 NWC) is on a three-game win streak in which it has beat Blaine, Lynden Christian and Sedro-Woolley. The Pioneers played three of the league’s top five teams in their first five matches, but they are finally shaping up.

Bellingham (3-5, 3-5 NWC) began its campaign 3-1, but has since lost four straight. The Bayhawks most recently lost to Blaine (2-6, 2-6 NWC) on Monday, Oct. 2, giving the Borderites just their second win of the year.

Sehome (7-0-3, 4-1 NWC) and Ferndale (7-0-2, 4-0-2 NWC), two of three remaining undefeated teams in league in the 2A/3A Northwest Conference, battled to a 2-2 tie on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The other undefeated team, Bellingham (6-1-2, 3-0-1 NWC), is coming off a 2-1 win over league foe Mount Vernon on Tuesday.

Lynden (6-2-2, 2-1-1 NWC) is in the middle of the pack and held off Squalicum, 1-0, on Tuesday. Squalicum (1-9-0, 0-4-0 NWC) is still searching for its first league victory.

In the 1A NWC, Lynden Christian (2-7-0, 2-2-0 NWC) is the lone undefeated team in league after a 2-0 shutout of Meridian (4-4-1, 2-2-1) Monday, Oct. 2. Blaine (2-3-2, 1-1-1 NWC) took a 1-0 win over Nooksack Valley (1-7-0, 1-2-0 NWC) Monday, while Mount Baker (0-5-0, 0-3-0 NWC) is still winless after a 7-0 loss to Sedro-Woolley on Monday.
