Student pleads guilty after peer’s sexual assault allegations

3 Bellingham assistant principals switched to administrative roles

By CDN Staff

A 16-year-old high school student pleaded guilty May 17 to two counts of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation against another student in Bellingham.

The boy pleaded guilty in Whatcom County Juvenile Court, and as part of a plea deal, two of the charges were resolved, The Bellingham Herald first reported May 18.

The student was accused of inappropriate sexual advances toward a female student beginning in October 2021, when both attended Squalicum High School, a federal civil rights suit filed in December 2022 alleged.

The federal suit, filed by the female student, also stated three members of the administration failed to report the allegations of sexual assault. Those three assistant principals — Meghan Dunham, Jeremy Louzao and Maude Chimere Hackney — were criminally cited by the Bellingham Police Department in December 2022 for allegedly failing to report the assaults.

The three administrators have since been reassigned to administrative roles, pending litigation.
