Man dies by suicide in Columbia neighborhood

A 25-year-old found dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound

A 25-year-old man shot and killed himself in a parking lot in Bellingham’s Columbia neighborhood Thursday, May 18, according to police.

Bellingham Police responded to multiple 911 calls of a single gunshot around 5:30 p.m. May 18. Officers arrived at the 3100 block of Northwest Avenue and found a person lying in a parking lot with an obvious gunshot wound.

After processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, Bellingham Police detectives and crime scene investigators determined a 25-year-old male had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The victim’s identity will be released once next of kin are notified.
