Lake Padden East closed after reports of shots fired

No victims have been confirmed as investigation continues

Bellingham Police are asking the public to stay away from Lake Padden East as they investigate a report of shots fired in the area May 15, Lt. Claudia Murphy said.

Police have not confirmed if someone was shot.

“Detective and crime scene investigators are investigating this fresh incident,” Murphy said. “We’re not releasing details at this time, and we ask people to stay away from Lake Padden East for the remainder of the night.”

Murphy said the eastern part of the lake should be open by Tuesday, and they will let the public know otherwise. She also added to be wary of any rumors circulating on social media like the Bellingham subreddit.

“We don’t want anything to be worse than it is or have anything inaccurate,” Murphy said. “We’re waiting for investigators to finish before releasing a statement tomorrow.”
