Train blocking exit of park for 'a couple hours'

An unidentified man died in a train collision near Boulevard Park shortly before 1 p.m., Bellingham Police Lt. Chad Cristelli confirmed. 

Bellingham police and Whatcom County EMS responded to a call of a “railroad/train emergency” that went out around 12:43 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, with Bellingham police and Whatcom County EMS responding. 

Cristelli said the train will be blocking the entrance and exit of the park for a couple of hours while police investigate the scene. 

A pedestrian died after being struck by an Amtrak train near the park in November 2022.
