Washington State Department of Transportation crews cleared the final stretch of Mount Baker Highway, leading up to Artist Point, and the popular road will reopen to travelers 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 28.

More than 600 vehicles travel to Artist Point each day. Around 40,000 people visit the Glacier Public Service Center throughout the year, the Department of Transportation tweeted.

Commuters will need to factor in a closure along Mount Baker Highway that began June 5, and will likely be in place until November, when construction on a new single-span bridge and replacement fish barrier is complete.

The closure affects all lanes of the highway between Britton and Noon roads. Additional closures will be implemented at certain intersections to deter motorists from bypassing detour routes. These intersections include Kelly and Hannegan roads; Van Wyck and Hannegan roads; and Van Wyck and Noon roads.

A detour takes travelers along Hannegan Road and Smith Road.
