The airport terminal at Paine Field in Snohomish County reopened around 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, after the local sheriff’s office investigated and evaluated a security threat.
Airport unit deputies evacuated the terminal after receiving reports of a “suspicious package,” said Courtney O’Keefe, the media contact for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The package, O’Keefe said, was a box that was dropped off at the airport earlier today.
“The way in which it was left was very suspicious,” O’Keefe said. “The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.”
The terminal was closed for approximately one hour, and reopened once sheriff’s deputies in the airport unit deemed it safe. O’Keefe said nothing suspicious was found inside.
Almost all of the flights slated to depart from the terminal are still on time, though a flight to Anchorage, Alaska, originally slated to leave at 2:10 p.m., has been delayed until 2:54 p.m. Two flights slated to arrive at about 1:30 p.m., one from San Diego and the other from Seattle, have both been delayed until 2:30 p.m. Otherwise, flights remain unaffected.
