Squalicum outlasts Bellevue Christian in Trojan Storm Classic opener

Storm beat Vikings 48-43 behind 3 double-digit scorers

Three Squalicum players scored in double figures and the Storm held off previously undefeated Bellevue Christian, 48-43, to open the Trojan Storm Classic holiday tournament on Thursday, Dec. 28 at Meridian High School.

Senior guard Mari Binning led Squalicum (3-5, 0-4 Northwest Conference) with 13 points, while senior Makayla Heaton and junior Loretta Murphy-Kangas each added 11. Freshman Addison Ketman also notched nine points off the bench.

The win marked the Storm’s second straight win after dropping four in a row from Dec. 4–18, while Bellevue Christian (5-1, 4-0 Nisqually League) lost its first game of the season.

Bellevue Christian sophomore Olivia Reynolds was the Vikings’ leading scorer with 12 points, followed by fellow sophomore Kiana Skogstad with nine. 

Squalicum’s next game will also be in the Trojan Storm Classic tournament, and the Storm will face Blaine (4-4, 1-4 NWC) at 12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29.
