Whatcom County football teams kick off their seasons this week with an eight-game slate from Sept. 1–2 that features two in-county, non-league contests. Even though it's early, quality can be expected: Four of the county’s local teams are coming off state tournament berths, with two hoping to reach consecutive state championship games.
