The upcoming Lummi Island Loop 5K/10K race, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 6, has been pushed back to Oct. 8.

The inaugural race’s registration and timing were set to be managed by Pacific Multisports, a local company that helps organize other events around Whatcom County such as Ski to Sea, Tour de Whatcom and the Lake Whatcom Triathlon.

Marc Blake, Pacific Multisports’ founder, confirmed a decision was made on July 20 to move the event to a new, tentative date of Oct. 8. Blake said he believes “the race organizers needed a little bit more time for planning and marketing since it is a first-year event.”

The Lummi Island Loop is being organized by the Lummi Island Foundation for Education (LIFE), a nonprofit organization that was formed to help save Beach Elementary School from closure in 2009 by earning International Baccalaureate authorization (IB) and offering that curriculum to off- and on-island families, according to its website.

A spokesperson for LIFE could not be reached prior to publication.
