Meet the stars of this season

BELLINGHAM

Gillian Spilker, Senior, Cross country

Personal goals this season: Run my fastest times yet and finish top 10 at the state meet. After a tough track season with shin issues, I’m working to mitigate mileage and hard surfaces to stay healthy this season and come back strong. 

Goals for the team this season: Finish on the podium at state and do so by building strong relationships. Team chemistry is critical to pushing one another and learning to run as a pack.

Go-to pregame ritual: I visualize the course the night before the race, then walk through it the next day.

Logan Steeves, Senior, Football, OLB/RB

Personal goals this season: To have a fun season. 

Goals for the team this season: To win over half of our games.

Go-to pregame ritual: Alone time with loud music.


BLAINE

Ava Curtright, Senior, Soccer, Center back

Personal goals this season: To welcome and lead our incoming freshmen and make the most of this final year.

Goals for the team this season: To build off our success last year and have fun while doing it.

Go-to pregame ritual: Jamming out to our hype playlist in the locker room.

Kael Evinger, Senior, Football, QB/S

Personal goals this season: Go to playoffs.

Goals for the team this season: To get better.

Go-to pregame ritual: Listen to music in the locker room.


FERNDALE

Landen Hatchett, Senior, Football, OL/DL

Personal goals this season: Improve as a leader, first-team all-state, increase tackles.

Goals for the team this season: Win league, make state run and BEAT LYNDEN.

Go-to pregame ritual: Talks with Donny in the locker room.

Christine Broselle, Senior, Soccer, Forward

Personal goals this season: To aid my team by passing and shooting as well as I can.

Goals for the team this season: To make it to state again this year and keep a positive atmosphere.

Go-to pregame ritual: Have my coach tie my shoes, or eat candy.


LYNDEN

Campbell Nolte, Senior, Football, RB/DE

Personal goals this season: Do whatever I can to help the team win.

Goals for the team this season: Win that ball and keep it in Lynden, live up to our expectations and keep our legacy going. Prepare the future grades.

Go-to pregame ritual: Pray. I believe strongly in my faith and it’s something I carry day to day, and give my thanks to.

Lane Heeringa, Senior, Football, RB/LB

Personal goals this season: Walk off the field knowing I left everything out there.

Goals for the team this season: Focus on one game at a time and just have fun.

Go-to pregame ritual: Feeling sick and puking every once in a while.


LYNDEN CHRISTIAN

Personal goals this season: Enjoy the journey through the hard times and the good and to not take any moment for granted. Lastly, remembering to glorify God in everything.

Goals for the team this season: To start out strong and to remember our potential by how hard we are willing to work.

Go-to pregame ritual: Dancing to “Scream and Shout” and “Speak Life.”

Isaac Paxton, Senior, Football, RB/DB

Personal goals this season: Personally, I just want to help the team in any way, shape or form. We’ve got a lot of sacrificial guys this year with this mindset, so that’s going to help the team a lot.

Goals for the team this season: As a team, we’re going to be satisfied with nothing less than a state championship.

Go-to pregame ritual: Sit, breathe, zone-in and later get hyped up with all of the guys. Then we finish it off with the Lord’s Prayer.


MERIDIAN

Avery Neal, Senior, Volleyball, Outside hitter

Personal goals this season: Cherish every moment of my last season with my favorite teammates.

Goals for the team this season: Work hard every practice and show what Meridian volleyball is all about.

Go-to pregame ritual: Always jamming out to 2000s throwbacks in the locker room.

Hayden Claeys, Senior, Volleyball, Setter

Personal goals this season: To lift up my teammates and celebrate their wins.

Goals for the team this season: To be close and trust each other so that we can succeed on the court.

Go-to pregame ritual: On our way out of our locker room, we all hit a sign by the door that says “all in.”


MOUNT BAKER

Personal goals this season: I want to properly represent Mount Baker and our volleyball team. Be a good role model and student-athlete.

Goals for the team this season: I want our team to be able to come together no matter the outcome. Win or lose, we are in it together.

Go-to pregame ritual: Our team loves to blast music in the locker room. We pump each other up and just prepare to have fun.

Landon Smith, Senior, Football, QB/DB

Personal goals this season: Be a leader for everyone on my team. 

Goals for the team this season: Make it to the playoffs.

Go-to pregame ritual: Prayer before the game/music.


NOOKSACK VALLEY

Taylor Lentz, Senior, Volleyball, Middle

Personal goals this season: My goal is to have fun and enjoy my senior season.

Goals for the team this season: As a team, I hope we grow together and win.

Go-to pregame ritual: A huge dance party.

Ryan Hughes, Senior, Football, TE/WR, SS

Personal goals this season: Be the best I can be and have fun.

Goals for the team this season: Make the playoffs.

Go-to pregame ritual: Speech, pray.


SEHOME

Tommy Funk, Senior, Football, RB/OLB

Personal goals this season: Average over 4 yards a catch. Finish season as one of the top players in the county. Get recruited.

Goals for the team this season: Help lead Sehome to a playoff berth.

Go-to pregame ritual: I love to pray before each game. Just knowing that God is there beside me gives me immense confidence.

Sami Valett, Senior, Volleyball, Outside hitter

Personal goals this season: Be an effective leader. I try to be a positive and fun influence on the team and lead by example.

Goals for the team this season: To be better than last year. We had a rocky season last year, so we are the underdogs. Hopefully, we can surprise some people.

Go-to pregame ritual: Food. I am not a very concentrated and productive person when I’m hungry, so I typically love a good quesadilla or grilled cheese on game day.


SQUALICUM

Nick Watt, Senior, Football, S/WR

Personal goals this season: 50-plus tackles, five touchdowns.

Goals for the team this season: Make another playoff run.

Go-to pregame ritual: Listen to music with team/two PB&Js.

Callie McEachran, Senior, Soccer, Center back

Personal goals this season: Continue to be a strong center back, having fun.

Goals for the team this season: Good attitudes, having fun, having a winning record.

Go-to pregame ritual: Drink a Red Bull and listen to loud music.
