Shots fired during Thursday road rage incident

No one injured in gunfire; police ask for public's help

No one was injured when gunshots were fired during a road rage incident on the 1800 block of Slater Road at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater said.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls about a possible road rage incident, and while deputies were on their way, one of the individuals involved reported a man had fired two shots at him, striking his vehicle. The shooter then fled the scene heading westbound on Slater Road, police said.

Police found two bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle — one in the hood and one in the back.

Whatcom Sheriff’s Office is still looking for the shooter who is described as a shorter, heavier-set man in his 20s with short, dark hair. The vehicle is possibly a maroon SUV with a broken driver’s side mirror, tinted windows and a tinted rear license plate cover. The suspect may have sustained a head injury, police said.

Bystanders or anyone who videoed the incident is encouraged to contact Detective Derek Bogle at 360-778-6747 or call WCSO’s Tip Line at 360-778-6663.
