The Bellingham planning document that focuses on pedestrians is a decade old, and city officials are seeking public input for an update.

The 2012 Pedestrian Master Plan emphasized safety, public health, the environment and equity — making sure amenities such as sidewalks, crosswalks and trails were available to all residents. Some of the projects listed in the plan have been completed in the 10 years since it was written. The city has grown in that time, too, and city officials say the plan is due for a rewrite.

Interested residents and visitors are encouraged to attend a Pedestrian Master Plan open house, June 1 in the Shuksan Middle School gym, 2717 Alderwood Ave. Officials will give short presentations at 6:20 p.m. and 7:20 p.m., but attendees are encouraged to come any time between 6-8 p.m. People may also provide comment online through July 1, on the city’s Engage Bellingham website

For those who may be more interested in pedaling than walking, the city will start taking public comment on an update to the 2014 Bicycle Master Plan this fall.
