UPDATE: Skagit Valley College, others in region received email threat prior to lockdown

Investigation is ongoing

Skagit Valley College was in lockdown Monday morning after receiving an email Sunday threatening that explosives and firearms would be used on campus.

Skagit went into lockdown in an “abundance of caution,” according to a Mount Vernon Police Department release, but lifted the lockdown at 9:40 a.m. Everett Community College received a similar threatening email Sunday, and law enforcement learned other colleges in the region received threats of the same nature Friday, May 6.

“With the stated date of the threat passed and numerous similar threats throughout the region, at this time it is believed there is no credible risk to the community,” the release stated. The investigation is ongoing.

Skagit announced all campuses and centers would be closed for the remainder of the day including evening activities and events. During the lockdown, students were asked in a Facebook post to leave campus if they weren’t in a building, or to remain where they were if a student was still in a building.
