It doesn’t quite feel like spring sports have been here for nearly a month now.

That might have something to do with the number of rainouts and postponements that have happened, but here we are heading into week four.

The Nooksack Valley baseball team earned its first win of the season last week in a 2-1 victory over Bellingham. Junior Bennett DeLange struck out eight batters, earning the win on the mound for the Pioneers.

Ferndale baseball got back in the win column with wins over Lakewood and Squalicum last week. Against the Storm, junior Jake Mason racked up 14 strikeouts across five and two-thirds innings.

On the tennis court, Bellingham picked up a 4-3 win over Squalicum. Ellie Wolverton defeated Bernadine Salvatierra, and Harmony Smith defeated Tanisha Bardsley-Taylor to earn two singles wins for the Bayhawks. Earning singles match wins for the Storm were Sophia Francis and Dylan McCoy.

In doubles, Bellingham’s Anna Palmer and Kelsey Welch defeated Zoe Bates and Jill Carlson, Kira Carlson and Ella Morrow of Bellingham beat Katie Wells and Abby Hildebrand of Squalicum. The lone doubles win for Squalicum was Chanelle Francis and Sarah Leslie defeating Molly Owens and Luna Jacobs.

The Bellingham schools hosted the Twilight in the ‘Ham track and field meet that saw outstanding performances from Squalicum’s Andre Korbmacher who posted a time of 14.05 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 40.63 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles.

Sehome’s Carter Birade placed first in the 100- and 200-meter runs, with times of 10.63 and 21.91 seconds.

Highlighting some of the top girls outings was Bellingham’s Chayse Flick-Williams who set a new personal record in the 100-meter run in 12.61 seconds, placing second. Sehome’s Jayda Darroch finished first in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.86 seconds.

Lynden Christian soccer picked up a 13-2 win over Nooksack Valley before falling to Burlington-Edison 1-0 later in the week. Squalicum took down city rival Sehome 2-0.

An offensive barrage between Lynden Christian and Meridian softball went the Lyncs’ way, 22-14. Lynden Christian and Blaine played the following day, with the Borderites coming out on top 14-11.
