State parks won’t require a Discover Pass on March 19 in celebration of State Parks’ 108th birthday.

March 19 is one of 12 days of the year where visitors don’t need a Discover Pass

Typically, a Discover Pass costs $10 for a day pass and $30 for an annual pass. The pass allows visitors to park at state parks; visitors arriving by land or boat do not need a Discover Pass ever.

According to the Discover Pass website, the pass was created to “offset steep reductions in general tax support for parks and other recreation lands and facilities operated by Washington State Parks, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR).”

The northwest region has 16 state parks and recreation areas
