Bellingham Police seek information on auto theft suspect

Police say the suspect rear-ended a BPD SUV

Bellingham Police Department is asking the public for help to find an auto theft suspect after the suspect rear-ended a BPD vehicle Thursday night.

A Whatcom County Sheriff deputy had spotted a stolen truck out of Bellingham on Bakerview Road. Deputies attempted to stop the truck. The driver didn’t stop for the deputies and took off at a high rate of speed. The deputies disengaged their pursuit.

According to a Facebook post from Bellingham Police Department, the driver of the stolen truck continued on Bakerview Road driving recklessly. The truck drove through a red light at the intersection of Bakerview Road and Guide Meridian Street, narrowly missing two pedestrians walking through the crosswalk. The truck crashed into a police SUV, which was northbound on Meridian Street.

The driver took off on foot. A K-9 officer was deployed to attempt to find the suspect, but despite picking up a lot of articles along the track, the dog was unable to find the suspect.
