A second suspect surrendered to police late Sunday evening in connection with a shooting in the Mount Vernon Walmart that left five victims injured July 17.
Another suspect was arrested last Friday and charged on suspicion of five counts of first-degree assault and booked into Skagit County Juvenile Detention. All three suspects are juveniles, Mount Vernon Police said.
Police said the suspects are gang members who had a confrontation with rivals at Walmart, where multiple shots were fired around 10:50 p.m. July 17, Cascadia Daily News previously reported.
A Monday evening press release stated the second individual would be held on a 30-day Magistrates Warrant while police continue their investigation and work to reconstruct the incident.
“Our community has rightfully expressed alarm at what occurred and wants accountability for these intolerable actions. We share those sentiments and are working at length to bring those responsible before a court,” Police Chief Chris Cammock said in Monday’s release.
Cammock said every community is susceptible to gang violence but that it does not reflect the quality of life expected in Mount Vernon and Skagit County.
