Letter from the Publisher

July 13, 2022

Dear Cascadia Daily News readers:

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the enthusiastic support you have given our publication since its January launch and to alert you to some coming changes in access to our online publication.

We are proud to produce multiple news products, including our live news site, cascadiadaily.com, our weekly print newspaper, the Cascadia Daily News, and the top stories and breaking-news updates we deliver by emailed newsletters and social media. We are extremely grateful for the support of our community, our advertisers and our generous early subscribers. Your faith in us as your source for responsible, independent, local news has made it possible for us to take the next step toward our own sustainability. On July 19, we are introducing a payment system to our website.

Already a subscriber?

If you are already a subscriber, you will continue to have unrestricted access to all of our online news stories. Beginning July 19, after reading several stories on cascadiadaily.com, you will see a message on your screen indicating that you need to log in for continued access. Simply use the email address and the password you set up when you first subscribed. If you don’t remember that password, there will be a link to re-set. No other adjustments to your subscription should be necessary.

Not yet a subscriber?

If you are not yet a subscriber, beginning July 19, your access to our website will be limited. To subscribe for full access just go to our website cascadiadaily.com and click on the “Subscribe” button. Then just follow the prompts.

Not sure?

Please continue to sample our stories by signing up on our website to our daily and/or Sunday emailed newsletters, which will deliver top headlines of the day or week, respectively. Subscribers can opt-in to the free newsletters via the “Subscribe” button when signing up.

If you should encounter any issues in setting up your website login, starting a subscription or signing up to receive our newsletters, we’re here to help. Simply call 360-922-3090 Ext. #1 or email member@cascadiadaily.com for assistance.

We sincerely hope you continue to enjoy our news products, which we constantly work to expand and refine. Your support literally makes that possible.

If there is anything more we can do to help deliver local news in a way that works best for you, do let us know.  We are truly grateful for your support of local news.

Sincerely,

Cynthia L. Pope, Publisher

CDN paywall FAQ

Q: How much is a subscription?

A: For $12 per month, you will have full access to online articles, a weekly e-edition and the option of having a print paper delivered weekly to your mailbox.

Q: Why is CDN installing a website “paywall?”

A: After an extensive trial period, your locally owned hometown paper needs readers to pay for news content and support our mission of providing long-term, local, independent journalism. Subscriptions are key to our business plan and long-term viability.

Q: When does the paywall go into effect?

A: Tuesday, July 19. (You’ll know it when you get the pop-up asking you to subscribe after reading several free articles).

Q: What do I need to do if I’m already a subscriber?

A: Thank you, early adopter! Simply use the email address and the password you set up when you first subscribed. If you don’t remember that password, there will be a link to re-set. No other adjustments to your subscription should be necessary.

Q: Whom do I contact if I have problems logging in?

A: We’re here to help you with any subscription or login problems. Simply call 360-922-3090 Ext. #1 or email member@cascadiadaily.com for assistance.

Q: How do I subscribe if I haven’t yet?

A: Click the “Subscribe” button at the top of our website, cascadiadaily.com. Or contact our sales staff at member@cascadiadaily.com, or by calling 360-922-3090 Ext. #1.

Q: Can I change or cancel my subscription at any time?

A: Of course. Just contact us in person at one of the addresses above.

Q: Can I have more than one person on my account? (Can spouse access account with their own log in?)

A: Yes, under “My Account.” The sub accounts cannot manage the account but can be authorized to read content.

Q: Will the print paper continue to be free?

A: CDN’s Wednesday print edition will continue to be free for now at local merchant pickup sites and will be delivered via U.S. mail, if desired, with a subscription.

Q: Will all your content be behind the paywall?

A: No. Some civic-focused and breaking-news material on our website will remain free without a subscription.

Q: Will some of your stories be published exclusively online?

A: Yes. Starting July 20, we also began publishing expanded versions of some material, including Letters to the Editor, online only. Conversely, some print paper content, such as national political columns and cartoons and games and puzzles, appear only in the print newspaper. The best way to get it all is with a subscription.

Q: How many free articles can I read online?

A: Without a subscription, you can read five articles for free every month.

Q: Is it possible to contribute more than the subscription cost to support your local journalism?

A: Yes. An option to add additional support will be present when you subscribe through the “Subscribe” button on cascadiadaily.com.

Ron Judd: We’re in this fight for the duration, but can’t do it without you.
