Two people died in a mobile home fire Monday morning on the 5000 block of Northwest Dr. in north Bellingham.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded to the scene shortly before 7 a.m. Monday. Firefighters were still working on the fire as of 10:20 a.m., District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman said.

“We’ll be there for quite some time,” Hoffman said.

One double-wide mobile home unit is completely destroyed. One neighboring unit sustained some fire damage, and the other neighboring unit was damaged by the heat.

Bellingham Fire Department and North Whatcom Fire also responded Monday.

Hoffman said the fire is under active investigation and the Whatcom County Fire Marshal and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office will provide further details on the deaths of the two individuals.

Cascadia Daily News will update this story as more information becomes available.
