A homicide suspect sought in connection with a Sunday shooting in Ferndale has been arrested, police said Friday evening.

Police on Thursday issued a bulletin identifying the suspect as Miguel Angel Miranda, 23, who was last seen driving a white 2010 Acura. Miranda was described as possibly armed and dangerous.

Police provided no immediate details of Miranda’s arrest, saying only that he was in custody as of 7 p.m. Friday.

The search for Miranda began early Sunday after Ferndale Police responded to a report of a shooting at a large party outside an American Legion Hall in the 5500 block of Second Avenue, a Ferndale spokesman said.

Officers found the victim, Jose Esquivel Hernandez, 28, of Bellingham, on the ground outside suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham and died from his injuries.

Several witnesses told police Hernandez had been seen arguing with another man before the shooting.
