Ferndale’s improbable season has come to an end.

The Golden Eagles fell to Kennewick Tuesday 80-62 in the 3A regional play-in round, marking a close to an incredible turnaround from the beginning of the season.

It was a close game at halftime, Ferndale couldn’t find stops in the second half and the Lions were able to build a substantial lead the Golden Eagles couldn’t overcome.

Senior Mark Schlichting led the Ferndale offense in his final game with a team-high 17 points. Junior Damian Toney added 14, senior Luke Wells also scored in double digits with 11 and senior Jazen Guillory had nine.

After a 1-7 start to the season, Ferndale went 10-5 in its last 15 games to finish the season 11-12. That run included the Golden Eagles earning their first state berth in 26 years.
