Vehicle stolen from Mount Vernon parking lot with child inside

Child returned unharmed, suspect still at large

A 12-year-old girl who was inside a vehicle reported stolen in Mount Vernon Friday evening was released unharmed, and police are searching for a suspect Saturday.

Mount Vernon Police, responding to a 5:40 p.m. report of a vehicle stolen from the 1100 block of Riverside Drive in Mount Vernon found the child unharmed at the scene. The suspect had returned her after realizing she was in the car.

The suspect is still at large, and police continue to search for the stolen vehicle: a gray 2006 Mazda 3 four-door, with dark tinted side windows and Washington license plate BHK4765.

The suspect was described as a slender male in his 20s with short or shaved hair. He was reported to be wearing glasses, a dark hoody, jeans and white tennis shoes.

The Mount Vernon Police Department continues to investigate this incident, and updates will be provided when available.
