Ferndale police updated information about homicide suspect Miguel-Angel Miranda’s Friday arrest. Miranda was arrested in Arizona.

The vehicle Miranda was believed to be driving was spotted by a license plate reader in Kingman, Arizona. Ferndale Police Department and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office worked together to find potential known associates of Miranda in the Phoenix area.

Using that information, Phoenix police spotted Miranda and arrested him. His vehicle was later found in Ogden, Utah.

Miranda has outstanding court cases in Phoenix, and will resolve those before being transported back to Whatcom County to face second-degree murder charges for the shooting death of Jose Esquivel Hernandez, 28, Bellingham.

Ferndale Police are now searching for information about two witnesses from the Jan. 23 shooting. Residents with information about Jimmy Abitia and Michael Archouletta are encouraged to reach out to Ferndale Police at 360-384-3390 or contact@ferndalepd.org.
