Woman charged with murder following Anacortes shooting

Suspect's mother told police there was a domestic violence altercation

An Anacortes woman was charged with second-degree murder after the fatal shooting of 52-year-old Moses White on Aug. 25, police said.

Shakina Thomas, 20, allegedly shot White near 30th Street and R Avenue in Anacortes, then fled on foot toward Commercial Avenue. She then returned to the scene and called 911, according to police. She was arrested and booked into Skagit County Jail.

Police officers attempted CPR on White, who had been shot in the back, but could not find a pulse. He was transported to Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Thomas’ mother told police Thomas had shot White during a “domestic violence altercation” between the suspect’s mother and White. Thomas and her mother both left the scene, then returned when “White no longer posed a threat,” the suspect’s mother told police.

Thomas’ mother did not have any visible injuries and did not require medical care.
