Tattoo shop raises more than $16K for Planned Parenthood

Community came out to support X. Tattoo’s 13-hour flash event

With a line down the block and a constant buzz of tattoo needles, X. Tattoo’s 13-hour flash event Friday to raise money for Planned Parenthood was an overwhelming success — totaling $16,109.34.

The recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade left many reeling, searching for a way to help.  

After posting on Instagram asking what his tattoo shop could do, X. Tattoo owner KC Lange teamed up with Mt. Baker Planned Parenthood to put on a flash event fundraiser.  

Starting at noon on Aug. 26, a line of people began to trickle inside, with patrons picking out the tattoo they wanted from pre-drawn art on flash sheets created by a few of the shop’s resident artists.

The flash pieces, many of which were related to reproductive rights, ranged from $100–$200, and were administered by one of eight tattoo artists.  

To assist with the influx of patrons, X. Tattoo asked for local tattoo artists to come donate their time.  

Marley Roane, Lange’s wife, who was stationed at the front desk navigating the pages-long waitlist, said several local tattoo artists responded and came to the shop to help, all of whom were male.  

“It’s been great having all these male tattooists step up for something like this,” Roane said.

Several local businesses showed their support for the event as well. JoJo’s Doughnuts, Mallard Ice Cream and Aslan Brewing all donated so the shop could provide food and water for their patrons. Additionally, several nearby stores and cafes offered discounts for those willing to flash their new tat.


The shop also had clothes and accessories for sale, with the proceeds also going to Planned Parenthood.  

“We’re donating every single penny that comes through the door,” Roane said.  

Lange said the community response was incredibly positive, especially from so many small local businesses.  

“We’re beside ourselves at the turnout,” Lange said, “We’re already talking about making it an annual charity thing, something for the community to bring everyone together.” 

X. Tattoo finished up their final tattoo around 1 a.m. Saturday, ending with a total of 97 tattoos.
