Get down and dirty for Mother Nature

Animals Across the Earth exhibit

Lightcatcher Building, Whatcom Museum, 250 Flora St., Bellingham

The Whatcom Museum will host a family-friendly activity all week leading up to Earth Day. Visitors can help decorate paper animals, which are then added to a huge paper mâché globe. Learn more about the exhibit at whatcommuseum.org.

FRIDAY, April 22

Beach cleanup for Earth Day

12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Birch Bay State Park, 7290 Birch Bay Dr., Blaine

Local environmental nonprofit RE Sources will host a beach cleanup in Blaine. Bagelry bagels will be provided. Register at https://p2a.co/jz4cy7f.

Mother Earth Day Celebration, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Bellingham Maritime Heritage Park

Children at the Setting Sun Productions will host a celebration of Mother Earth Day with Indigenous stories, speakers and Lummi song and dance. Learn more about the event at ncascades.org.


SATURDAY, April 23

Padden Creek work party

9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Fairhaven Park, 107 Chuckanut Dr. N., Bellingham

Register for the City of Bellingham-sponsored cleanup party at Padden Creek at volunteerbellingham.org. Volunteers will remove invasive species, spread mulch, and more. All ages are welcome, but preregistration is a must!

California Creek restoration

9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 4874 Birch Bay Lynden Rd., Blaine

The Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association and the Whatcom Land Trust are partnering for creek restoration at a new site along California Creek. All ages welcome. Register at nsea.volunteerhub.com.

Love your neighborhood, love your planet

10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunnyland Park, 2338 Humboldt St., Bellingham

Sunnyland will celebrate Earth Day with a variety of activities, including a seed swap and tree planting.

SUNDAY, May 1

Essence of Bellingham Photo Competition

Climate Action awards will be given for the images that show actions our community is taking to address climate change and its impacts. Submissions are due by May 1 at cob.org.
