Bellingham City Council, 11:10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 210 Lottie St.
Council will consider extending the city's lease with the property owner at 1530 Cornwall Ave. and Lighthouse Mission Ministries, to continue operating Base Camp at the site for five more months due to a longer-than-expected construction schedule for Lighthouse Mission's new homeless shelter on West Holly Street. The extension would keep Base Camp open into fall 2024.

Council will consider an ordinance that would prohibit possession of firearms at city stadiums and convention centers, and city hall.

Whatcom County Council, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 311 Grand Ave.
Council will host three public hearings related to proposed parking restrictions along Euclid Avenue, Samish Way and Aldrich Road. The proposed restrictions on Euclid and Aldrich are due to complaints from residents, while the Samish Way proposal is related to recreation on Galbraith Mountain.

Members of the council climate action committee will discuss a proposed ordinance to establish a Forestry Task Force to help advise county leadership on issues related to the timber industry and environmentally sensitive forests

OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMENT

Criteria for outdoor grants. Deadline: Sept. 11, 2023

The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office is asking for public comments on proposed changes to the way grant applications for parks, trails and other outdoor spaces are evaluated. The changes would affect grants in the Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account, Land and Water Conservation Fund, Youth Athletic Facilities and the state’s largest grant program for parks and trails — the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program’s Local Parks, Trails, and Water Access categories. Bellingham waterfront cleanup sites. Deadline: Sept. 26, 2023

The Department of Ecology invites seeks public comment on two legal agreements for the cleanup of the I & J Waterway Site on the Bellingham waterfront. The agreements address each of the two sediment cleanup units that comprise the site. Survey online.

The Bellingham Plan. Deadline: 2023

Bellingham is updating its Comprehensive Plan, the document it uses to guide growth toward a 20-year vision for the future. This update is due in 2025 and will guide development, capital investments, city programs and other actions across the city as it works toward its vision for 2045. Survey online.

Proposed expansion of Bellingham's transit station. Deadline: 2023

Whatcom Transportation Authority is accepting written comment through its Engage WTA website on a proposal to expand Bellingham Station, to allow room for more buses and additional public uses. Survey online.
